Open Source No Subscription As Principal

The use of freely available software and data is conditional for the remote Maji Yetu Water Resource and River Flow Monitor.

Not only out of practical necessity (financial feasibility) but also as principal to offer knowledge and data free of cost in order to make it available to everybody. Open Source software (like QGIS) and Data (ESA, NASA) are instrumental in the development and expansion plans of the Maji Yetu Platform.

Services for fees may be considered in future. As vistors may request tailor-made remote sensing data from Maji Yetu for their specific location or special water use.

Up to now all contributions and support for the Maji Yetu Platform have been voluntary.

Reorganisation of open source Data Acquisition using ESA Browser

Over the years many sources and global data sets have become available on the internet like Google Earth, Google Earth Engine, USGS, EOS, Planet, NASA, DigitalGlobe – MAXAR etc.

Some platforms started with free access to data and accounts and some gradually moved to paid downloads. Government and tax receiving institutions like NASA and ESA are most reliable if it comes to guaranteed free data access and accounts.

Also the analysis per platform and end products offered by the various platforms, developed over the years.

At the moment Maji Yetu uses ESA‘s new browser facility for which you can register a free account. Also Google Earth Engine can be used for the production of specific data and resolution requirements.
